Emergency Management Associate
Job Description:
Responsibilities:
• Work under the supervision of experienced emergency planners to assist clients in developing or updating their emergency plans and procedures, including incorporation of response and recovery issues into their planning efforts.
• Ensure that plans and procedures developed by IEM for clients are consistent with the National Incident Management System (NIMS) or the National Response Framework (NRF) as appropriate, as well as other appropriate federal, state, or locally accepted legal/regulatory requirements or guidance.
• Ensure that IEM products and services meet client expectations.
Skills Required:
• Functional usage of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint. (Functional usage of Microsoft Project desired.)
• Good listening skills – ability to identify critical customer needs.
• Demonstrated oral communication skills – ability to communicate technical information to non-technical audiences, adjust presentation to audience, and speak comfortably in front of wide group of emergency management personnel.
• Ability to quickly research federal and state regulatory bases for programs, guidance, and technical materials, condense and analyze the information, then use it to devise models for application in operational environments.
• Ability to organize and write clear, concise technical reports for delivery to customers.
• Ability to work in fast-paced, changing environment with individuals from diverse areas of specialization.
• Ability to efficiently apply existing knowledge as well as assimilate new material quickly and apply it across a broad range of projects.
• Ability to manage multiple, concurrent tasks.
• Practical experience in development of strategies and plans for response to terrorism, natural, and technological hazards at the city, county, and/or state level. Familiarity with current requirements, guidance, and practices. (Desired)
• Project management or team leadership skills. (Desired)
Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree required. Degree in emergency/disaster management, homeland security, public safety, or related field preferred.
• Minimum one (1) year experience related to emergency management or emergency response operations. (Internships at a city, county, or state emergency management agency may be considered to meet this requirement.)
• Ability and willingness to travel for business and to deploy to support disaster response/recovery operations for periods of up to 30 days.
• Ability to obtain security clearance required.
